Brooklyn to Build 4th Overseas Sister-Brewery in Hong Kong via JV with HKBC

Coming HK Yau Brewing Co in Hong Kong will be Brooklyn Brewery’s next foreign project, the co announced on its blog today. The yet-to-be-built brewery will be the co’s 4th and its 2nd in Asia. Like others, HK Yau is a joint venture, this time with local Hong Kong Brewing Co. Co’s already got 3 beers planned, with label art stylistically reminiscent of Brooklyn’s branding. But Brooklyn’s taking its time to build out, so no word yet on exactly how much of the beer it’ll produce there, CEO Eric Ottaway shared with CBN. The co won’t be brewing Brooklyn brands there for now, he noted, adding that plans can obviously change. After exporting there for 12 yrs, Hong Kong has grown to be Brooklyn’s 15th-largest export market of 36 total, since “in the last two years sales growth has increased nicely,” Eric said. HK is “a city of 7 million people where craft is happening rapidly, and brands from Hong Kong often go on to become strong throughout other parts of China,” he added, noting “plenty of potential.”
