Consumer price index for beer was up 1.4% in Jun vs yr ago, according to latest gov’t stats. That was smallest monthly increase for beer since Oct 2016. CPI for beer lagged 1.6% increase for general inflation in Jun. Beer prices have now been behind or on par with general inflation for 9 months running. CPI for spirits and wine were down 0.2% and 1% respectively in Jun vs yr ago. So thru first half of 2017, CPI for beer increased 1.7%, trailing 2.2% gain for general inflation. That’s almost identical to increase of 1.8% for beer prices for full year 2016. Spirits prices are down 0.3% Jan-Jun while CPI for wine slipped 0.8%.
