Another few pieces of RNDC may soon be taken off the board. Multi-state AB house Quality Brands has agreement to get RNDC's "Plains States" biz in the Dakotas and Nebraska, the co announced. And Breakthru Beverage also has a letter of intent (LOI) to acquire the co's biz in Kentucky and Indiana. Quality, owned by the Gillick family, will push into North Dakota with this deal, while expanding its biz in SD and NE, in addition to CO and WY ops. It becomes yet another beer distributor leveraging this moment to get bigger in wine & spirits. The "milestone" for co's biz represents "a deliberate step forward in our long-term strategic direction, expanding our territory within the Midwest," Quality explained in release today. "This transaction presents a unique opportunity for our 2nd generation company to become a Total Beverage Solution in the Midwest, a landscape where Quality Brands already has deep rooted customer relationships, strong route to market insights, and a passion for enhancing our communities," the Gillicks added in a comment to INSIGHTS. Once closed, expected in Q3, Breakthru will operate in 18 states, per co. Meanwhile, reporting on mandatory WARN notices issued in states with pending deals have also raised questions among employees, tho distrib buyers continue to confirm their commitments to taking on most if not all RNDC staff.Deals not yet finalized. But their announcement leaves the future of RNDC's biz unresolved in just a handful of states. That's a huge change from just over a wk ago. Just last Mon, tentative agreements confirmed with Columbia Dist in the PacNW, plus Martignetti in 17 control states, followed by announcement about deal with Manhattan in NY a wk ago. At this time last yr, RNDC operated in at least 40 states, tho it was already winding down its biz in CA. By our count, no changes to RNDC's biz announced in just 5 states: its JV biz in IL, plus AR, GA, NM and OK.
