THE TEAM

Benj Steinman is the president of Beer Marketer's INSIGHTS, Inc, the leading trade publisher for the United States brewing industry since 1970. Benj joined BMI in 1980. He is publisher and editor of the flagship newsletter as well as several other publications. Beer Marketer's INSIGHTS currently has six publications and two conferences, all about beer/beverages, and is often quoted in leading newspapers, magazines and other media. Benj graduated from Brown University in 1978 with a Bachelor of Arts and from Columbia University in 1991 with a Masters of Business Administration. Benj and his wife Robin live in Montebello, NY. They have 3 children.

Nadia Merhai joined Beer Marketer's Insights in 2016. Leveraging her diverse background in public relations and a decade of running her own consulting business, Nadia brings a wealth of experience in social media, marketing, blog writing, graphic design, and digital and web consulting. She's eager to further develop these skills to contribute to Beer Marketer's publications and manage circulation. Nadia lives in Suffern with her three children and is looking forward to building a future with her partner and his two sons.

Jim Sullivan is currently an editor with Beer Marketer’s Insights and a senior editor for our non-alcoholic beverage publication, Beverage Business Insights. He is our resident historian, compiling TBT articles. Jim started out his journalistic career editing home decorating and improvement ideas with a large publishing co in Manhattan, so when the opportunity arose to write about the beer industry, you can guess it was not a difficult decision. Over the past 20 years he has enjoyed covering every nuance of an ever changing industry. Tracking how so many different brewers/brands are performing and competing against each other as well as how makes for interesting stories and analysis each day. The many personalities among family-run beer distributorships and how those small companies are continually consolidating with some growing into powerful corporations adds to the flavor and appeal of tracking what remains the most fun industry in the US.

Robin Steinman is the Treasurer of Beer Marketer’s Insights, and assists with marketing, circulation and office management. In addition to her work at BMI, Robin is a certified yoga instructor. She has an MBA in Marketing and International Business from NYU, and a BA from UVa. Robin worked for American Express in Card Marketing and Product Development for 15 years. Her first job after college was for a small newsletter publisher. Robin married Benj in 1986 and they have 3 wonderful children.

Christopher Shepard is a Senior Editor at Beer Marketer’s, writing across many publications, helping lead the charge on Craft Brew News and acting as editor of Alcohol Issues Insights. His father Eric, who retired in 2021 after 40+ years at BMI, passed Christopher the torch as lead legal and policy reporter. He frequently presents at industry conferences and plays key roles in building BMI's annual data reports and webinars. Chris studied theatre, dance and English at Muhlenberg College. He also writes poetry, teaches dance and hikes near his home in Rockland County, NY.

Gerry Khermouch is the editor of Beverage Business Insights. He joined Beer Marketer’s Insights in 2004, launching BBI, the almost daily trade e-letter offering inside information on the non-alcoholic beverage industry: new products, acquisitions and alliances, executive moves, with a major emphasis on emerging segments such as energy drinks, functional beverages, ready-to-drink coffees and protein shakes. BBI is the go-to resource in this realm for marketers, distributors and capital-side people while breaking major stories on moves by Coca-Cola, PepsiCo, Nestle and Anheuser-Busch to better penetrate this realm. Gerry works virtually from the Upper West Side of Manhattan. Past positions include Managing Editor of The Electricity Journal, Associate Editor of Businessweek (for 3 years), and Editor of Brandweek (for 7 years).

David Steinman joined Beer Marketer's INSIGHTS September 2013 and represents the 3rd generation at the company along with his brother Jason. David worked for years as Senior Editor of Craft Brew News and Senior Editor across all Beer Marketer's INSIGHTS publications before he was appointed VP/Executive Editor in 2022. Prior to BMI, David worked for two years as Marketing Coordinator at Long Trail/Otter Creek Brewing Company in Vermont. He graduated from the University of Vermont with a major in Business and a minor in Music. In his spare time, David is an avid guitar player and snowboarder.

Jason Steinman joined BMI in March 2020. He is a contributing editor for multiple publications. Before joining, he worked in brand marketing at PepsiCo North America Beverages for three years. Jason graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Business Administration.
