IL Gov JB Pritzker signed a bill earlier this wk to ban sales of hemp-derived THC products above 0.4 mg/container outside of dispensaries, front-running the Nov 12 federal deadline, reports Marijuana Moment. Pritzker had long been a critic of unregulated THC product sales because "children are able to get a hold of this in a way they shouldn&#39;t" and "we have a regulated environment for cannabis. We should have a regulated environment for hemp" (see Sep 22, 2025 issue). But the gov also doubled the legal possessable amount of cannabis thru dispensaries to 60g of flower, 10g of concentrates and 1K mg of THC. He also doubled the amount of cannabis someone with a prior conviction for possession could seek to have expunged, from 30g to 60g. Yesterday it was National Restaurant Assn that called on Congress to delay the ban and instead "establish a clear regulatory framework that ensures consumer safety and supports restaurant operators serving these products." That framework "should also empower state and local governments to tailor market-specific rules, similar to how alcohol beverages are regulated," NRA offered. It estimates that 5% of restaurants that serve alcohol currently offer D9 bevs and 26% of all eateries are interested in offering them under a clear regulatory framework, a market NRA estimates at $1.6 bil annually.
